fascinating. i feel for you in having to deal with terrible and abusive managers. i shall write a post about my various jobs soon! thanks for the inspiration, as always, my dear.
I’m grateful to have worked for mostly wondrous and weird people. I am a better employee for eccentric humans, and don’t tend to fit in to normal work environments. Thankfully there are so many wondrous humans who have seen my potential and given me a chance, and I’ve learned to stay away from the people who would be cruel or take advantage of me.
I can’t wait to hear your experiences!
I read your film piece today and I was also inspired! I think next week will be a week of posts about film! Thank you, always, for sharing your inspiration and kindness!
Thank you for taking the time to read it! It took me on and off all day to write and it became less of a list and more of a small memoir.
It did make me so grateful to be in this moment in time. I sometimes have a hard time believing all the things that I’ve done, so it was a helpful walk into my past.
Wow!! This was *SUCH* a treat to read. Thank you, Wake! ❤️🌻 It was so beautiful and reflective to read the life of someone whom you met so long ago, and to understand where they were in their life when they entered yours. So fascinating. 💙🌳
Oh I can imagine! So much has happened since then but teaching your class was such an important part of my life.
Sometimes it feels like it wasn’t terribly long ago that I was that school teaching, but it’s been nearly 16 years since I left to become a parent.
I’m grateful that I still get to know some of you and to see what wondrous humans you still are, and all the ways your core traits from those days still shine through.
My youngest child is now the same age as you were when I started teaching you all, and that is strange to think about.
You've had quite an interesting time! Very cool, thanks for sharing your journey! I believe I remember the store you worked at! It was one of the only places in town that stocked Jolt Cola I believe...and I lived off that Cola for a good 2 to 3 years!
I'll share a cool job. For two summers, I got to be a councilor at Simonhouse. I've been going to that camp for years and one year, when I was 16, I was asked to join the staff the next year. Of course I jumped at it because I loved the camp. And both were fantastic summers... Even the one that ended with me and a broken arm. But that's a tale for another time!
Oh! That is a job I always wanted but never thought to apply for! Camp counsellor! What a brilliant job. And I think you’re right that we did stock Jolt Cola. My favourite thing was that strange Orbitz drink that existed in the mid 90s, and Snapple ice tea in a glass bottle.
I keep having to come back to update this post because I’ll remember a job I had! 😂

This was so interesting to read! Thank you for sharing this story of your work life and I'm excited for you about the magic town and the theater!

Remember Snapple Elements?! My fave was the Snapple Fire, a dragon fruit flavored beverage. That one was fantastic!
Orbitz was so odd to drink, but hey it was the 90's!
Oh my goodness! I didn’t until just now! The dragon fruit one was so good! I wonder how many small things I’ve forgotten!
