Medical Update
…I’m so impressed by this kid
I’m so tired. I don’t know where to start.
We are at the hospital for children. My kiddo has acute appendicitis. He has been an incredible advocate for himself, and it’s been amazing to watch him kindly assert his issues and needs.
The first hospital we were at for five hours. I don’t think they believed him, until he got into the doctors office.
Then they sent us on to the children’s hospital. And here. They’ve been so magical. Quick. Attentive. Kind. Funny. They’ve made him feel like what he is reporting is important and true.
Thankfully he still has time before his condition worsens. Thankfully he caught it in time.
He’s going to get some antibiotics, and then he’s going to have his appendix removed by surgeons that do this every day. (Edit: the final surgeon just came in and said we caught it early enough for antibiotics only!)
For the last seven years, every time he experienced pain in his side he was worried that it was his appendix bursting.
Every time we took him in, it wasn’t.
But this time. It was his appendix. And he advocated for himself. And I believed him. His Dad believed him.
So here we are. In a hospital. Feeling cared for. In a completely different province. On vacation. He told me that he’s glad this happened here. That it feels like we were exactly where we are meant to be.
It’s been a long, important day. We’ve learned a lot.
I just feel absurdly grateful right now.
……
I wrote this before we found out he wasn’t getting his appendix out. And now he’s grieving. He wanted his appendix out. He wanted an end to worry. But now he has a return to the status quo ahead of him.
But I think it’s going to be ok.
Heart,
Wake

Sending you all the good energy I can 🤍
