My best friend and I are just about to go on our adventure for the day so I’m doing a quick write on today’s prompt:
Write a short story about someone named Sparkle
She was giddy. She was over the moon. She was seeing gentle stars at the edge of her vision. Sparkle was a chameleon who dreamed of becoming a baker. The whole jungle was lined up to try her new teensy cupcakes and minuscule doughnuts. Her favourite part was the decorating. Today was opening day. Her own cafe. Her friend, Gunther, an artistic echidna, had done a wondrous caricature for her sign.
Sparkle’s Bakehouse
Everything was just the right amount of sweet, and EVERYTHING had edible glitter. The display cases were bright like the cover of a children’s book.
Her first customer was Gus, a rather curmudgeonly goose, who’d lined up early.
He ordered one turquoise sparkle passion fruit doughnut.
Sparkle handed the delicate sweet to him on her handmade pink pottery plate.
Gus scooped up the doughnut in his beak.
His eyes started to tear up.
…and he was weeping. From joy.
Sparkle went around the counter, looked at the line of customers and exclaimed “today’s sweets are on the house.”
Her staff took over, Sparkle turned a gentle blue and she walked Gus to one of the pond side tables and waited until his tears had dried.
“That was the best thing I have ever tasted. In my life.”
Gus spoke slowly with care.
Sparkle’s skin started to shimmer and then she was every colour of the rainbow.
The line of customers turned to her, and their mouths charmed by her food, started to sing. It was a magical song. No one had known the words before or the tune and they forgot it after it was over. But the moment of togetherness was decorated on their hearts.
Sparkle’s Bakehouse was officially open.
